LIGHT PAINTING
Light is one of the most interesting forms of paint. When combined with a camera, it is able to create brush strokes with the most unique texture, beautiful colors, and smooth motions. It makes up our world, without it we literally cannot see. It warps and bends, reflects and refracts, all the while being invisible to the human eye. But light is constantly in motion. That motion is what makes it so special. It captures a moment of movement, even when that motion is not visible. It shows a path taken, a road traveled, a route explored. In these paths of motion pictured by the camera, light goes from showing to being shown. It goes from a highlight to a focus. It goes from invisible to seen.
This series combines motion with that focus on light. Driving around the streets of Boulder, Colorado at night, I set my camera up for long exposure. Using the lights around me on the road, whether that be streetlamps, car lights, stoplights, or something else, I was able to create these maps of movement.
